In 2025 , there were over 110,000 abortions in New York State. The data shows that over 70% of these women felt pressured to abort. Relational, financial, and emotional stress all factor into this statistic. It is evident that many women terminate their pregnancy as they feel out of control or simply overwhelmed. How can we help and combat this statistic? By implementing the 3C's : Cool, Calm and Collected. By working with women, we can help them slow down and process their situations, offer options, and educate them on all of their choices.
When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, a woman is flooded with emotions. Fear, anxiety, shock, and even guilt can be all consuming. These feelings send the nervous system into hyperdrive, causing intense emotions. The result is the body entering the common “fight, flight, or freeze mode." Many of us have heard this phrase before, but the science behind it is fascinating. When “fight, flight, or freeze” is activated, the amygdala (a part of the brain) sends the danger signal to the body. In other words, we are in survival mode only. This results in the inability to think rationally and make logical decisions. Do you see how this is directly connected to the women we serve and the statistic above? Many women are so consumed with emotions and outside influences that their bodies are screaming danger and threat. They are not in a place to make a decision, particularly in regard to their pregnancy and human life.
Here is where we come in. Through our ministry, we create a safe and warm environment for this woman. We allow her to slow down, process, and recuperate. Once her brain and body slow down a bit, she is able to make more rational decisions and educate herself on all of her options regarding her pregnancy. By allowing her to build trust with us, we ease her anxieties and fears. She is able to reset and hear what is being said to her. We listen and respond to her needs, and the result is the outside noise and pressure dissipating. She can look at all of her options and decide what is best for her and her only. The 3C’s are an essential part of what we do here at Alight. We allow women to cool off by expressing all their emotions, calm down their bodies and brains to prepare their hearts for their next steps, and collect all the necessary facts to make an informed decision. Your support for this campaign allows us to continue to minister to women so that they may see their own value and the value of precious life inside of them.
